16 years of alcohol is the semi-autobiographical directorial debut film by Richard Jobson about a skinhead named Frankie; his violent childhood, alcoholism and his love for Ska.

Filmed in studio and on location in Edinburgh, the story is set in three distinct periods; the early 60's, mid 70's and present day.

At the 2003 British Independent Film Awards, the film was nominated for best independent film, and Susan Lynch won the best supporting actor/actress category. Kevin McKidd plays the central character Frankie, a violent alcoholic who is partially based on Jobson's brother and on Jobson himself.
